TEN historic bells at Magdalen College will ring loud and clear for May Morning after a major restoration project.
The oldest of the bells from Magdalen College Tower dates back to 1410.
Following the restoration and retuning, White’s of Appleton staff, pictured, brought the bells back into the college on Monday and are now being fitted back in the tower.
Home bursar Mark Blandford-Baker, inset, said the work cost up to £75,000.
He added: “The bells ring immediately after the choir sing at the top of the tower on May Morning and they will sound fantastic this year.”
White’s has been looking after the bells since the firm started in 1824 they were last removed from the tower for repairs in 1884.
Work is also being carried out to repair the tower clock, which has been out of action since September.
