Sir – As a parent of two children who attend Larkrise Primary, I am delighted with their experience there — as are our children, and the vast majority of the other children and parents.

I am surprised and revolted by Oxfordshire County Council’s underhand tactic of announcing via the press that they want to railroad Larkrise and nine other primary schools into becoming academies.

Becoming an academy has, as yet, many unknown consequences, but one consequence that is known is that there will no longer be local, democratically-elected accountability of the schools via the local education authority. What might the consequences be of that?
