LIFE at Oxford’s hospitals has changed quite a bit in 37 years.

In fact, when Christine Jones began her career in healthcare, the John Radcliffe Hospital was only two years old.

She has now retired from her job as a ward clerk at the hospital’s Heart Centre and yesterday her colleagues threw a party in her honour.

The 65-year-old from Wheatley began her career in 1974 at Oxford’s Churchill Hospital as a housekeeper.

After three years she began looking after patients as a ward clerk and in 1994 she moved to the JR.

She said: “I’ve been lucky to work with some professional and dedicated people. I haven’t worked with anyone who doesn’t have the patient’s best interest in mind.”

Mrs Jones, who is married to Leonard and has two daughters, Angela and Nicola, will now be spending more time looking after her garden.
