Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp lost £250,000 in a takeover bid at Oxford United, a court has heard.
HSBC executive Alan Hills told Southwark Crown Court today that Redknapp lost every penny as part of a loan to take control of the club.
Redknapp's barrister John Kelsey-Fry used the loss to show the football manager was not the "hard-headed businessman" the prosecution had claimed.
Redknapp, 64, of Poole, Dorset and Milan Mandaric, of Oadby, Leicestershire, deny two charges of cheating the public revenue.
The charges relate to alleged payments to Redknapp totalling £189,000.
The trial continues.
