I WONDER what Oxford United fans thought of the advert in last week’s Oxford Mail, advertising the Reading Youth Academy?

While I’m sure in these hard times we’re all in, (apparently), the Oxford Mail must take revenue from wherever possible but what next, an advert from that team down the A420?

I have heard moans in the past about Oxford United and their lack of academy ambition but have to say the opposite seems true, having been involved refereeing their fantastic new facilities at Rover.

On the playing front, it was great to see Michael Duberry showing what a tremendous professional he is by scoring in the ‘right’ end after two unfortunate own goals!

And we also have negative mutterings again from the usual suspects, about the manager Chris Wilder. The same as three seasons ago in the Conference, when the team seemed to implode but won on a great day at Wembley.

I wrote to the Oxford Mail at the time (April 2010) that all the woes would be forgotten if we went up, by whatever means.

Just what do some fans want? We all want to see our side successful but we do not want a manager like our A420 rivals, no thank you, or a Westley or an Evans. You’ll do us just nicely, Mr Wilder.

He has built successful teams in the past and there doesn’t seem to be much wrong, consistency maybe. This is a marathon, not a sprint and not a bad position with 19 to play, is it?
