THE manager of a fish and chip shop has spoken of the moment staff evacuated the building as a blaze spread.
The manager of Posh Fish in Headington, which caught fire on Friday, last night told of what happened when the blaze broke out.
Marta Abreu said: “The staff saw smoke coming out of one of the fryers and they got all the customers out.
“It started so quickly we didn’t even know what had happened.
“Three other people phoned the fire brigade. My mother, Teresa, was taken to the ambulance to give her oxygen.
“She has been running this business for 10 years. It is a family business, which makes it more difficult.
“We don’t like to see our mother suffer.”
The windows of the fish and chip shop have now been papered over with an apology to its customers.
Ms Abreu said: “At the moment we don’t know when we are going to re-open. We are waiting for the insurance to come and until then we don’t know what is going to happen.
“I don’t think the damage is that bad but I don’t have the experience.”
Three people were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
