ASSISTANT priest Jenni Williams will be swapping sermons for slapstick next month when she plays the lead in her village’s pantomime.
Dr Williams, whose normal role sees her centre stage at St Peter’s Church, in Wootton, near Abingdon, will instead be treading the boards as Aladdin in Wootton Players’ show.
She only arrived in the village five months ago with her husband, the Rev Jonathan Williams, the priest in charge.
Dr Williams said: “I wanted to do it as I wanted to get involved in the life of the village and this is something that is fairly big.
“It's great fun being in a pantomine and it's also great fun to watch.”
Churchwardens Mike Varnom and Bill Tidbury will be appearing as the Dame Widow Twankey and the Genie of the Lamp respectively. Jasmine Miller plays Princess Jasmine.
The Players will be performing the show at Wootton and Dry Sandford Community Centre from February 1-4.
The performances start at 7.30pm from Wednesday to Friday and at 3pm and 7pm on the Saturday. Tickets cost £6-£8 and are available by calling 01865 739039.
