I’VE just been made aware of Fran Bardsley’s article from December 18, (City School Results Branded Rubbish).

I am deeply dismayed by the claim that my son’s school, St Nicholas, in Marston, is under-performing. I would like to see the record set straight.

Firstly, St Nick’s hosts the Autism Resource Base.

Excluding the scores of these children, we would exceed all government targets. But we are proud to include all students in all aspects of our school’s life.

Secondly, Even if it were under-performing, these scores are only a partial measure of a school’s success and the dismissiveness expressed by Ms Tilley was unwarranted, miles off base and hurtful to the parents, students and teachers at St Nicholas.

Our school has a large and dedicated group of parents who understand, appreciate and totally endorse the school’s inclusive character.

The children there are happy, and loved and they get along. And that is what primary school is all about.

Reading and maths and science scores are important but learning that you are a worthwhile person, with many talents to develop, is far more important: and St Nick’s is very good at this indeed.
