About one in ten county women are smoking when they give birth, latest figures show.
Of 2,042 pregnancies, 161 were smoking at the time of deliveries between July and September, Department of Health figures show.
This placed it towards the bottom of smoking rates across England. Highest, 30 per cent, was in Blackpool.
Mothers who smoke are at greater risk of miscarriage. Children are also more at risk of asthma and chest infections, The NHS’s Oxfordshire Smoking Advice Service offers help to pregnant women on 0845 40 80 300.
