AN Oxfordshire children’s home which looks after youngsters with learning and physical disabilities and those with sensory impairment has been rated outstanding by Ofsted.

The home, which was inspected in November, provides respite care for youngsters aged between eight and 18.

In his report, inspector Angus Mackay said: “Staff enjoy excellent close relationships with schools and colleges young people attend and ensure they work in a complementary way with them. Young people benefit from this relationship which aids in promotion of communication and a highly-structured progression in their life skills.

“They love coming to the home where they have fun and have their often very complex health and care needs met by a highly-enthusiastic, dedicated and competent staff group.”

Management of the home was described as excellent, and the manager as highly-experienced and knowledgeable.

Mr Mackay said young people learned enhanced communications, cooking, self-help and entertainment, with one parent saying her daughter was taught how to ride a bike, something that could not be done safely at home.

Mr Mackay said: “Young people enjoy coming to the home and have a wide range of fun and educational activities to choose from when they are there.”
