THE husband of a woman who died after drunkenly crashing her car has been caught drink-driving.

Liz Meechan died on July 4 when her BMW left the A4095 as she drove from a Witney pub to her home in Bampton.

A coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death after hearing the 45-year-old mother-of-two had 225 milligrammes of alcohol in 100ml of blood, above the legal limit of 80 milligrammes.

Mrs Meechan, a pharmaceutical contracts manager for the Department of Health, had been drinking at the Three Horseshoes pub in Corn Street until about 1am.

At Banbury Magistrates’ Court this month, her husband Michael admitted a charge of drink driving.

The 47-year-old, of Market Square, Bampton, was stopped in Broad Street, Bampton, on November 8, two weeks after his wife’s inquest. He gave a reading of 50 microgammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates fined him £100, a £15 victims’ surcharge and £60 costs. He was banned from driving for a year, which can be reduced by three months on completion of a £150 course.
