Can I please ask what the bus drivers and people of Oxford have done to whoever arranged the roadworks in St Clement’s, on one of the key routes into the city centre, two weeks before Christmas? I don’t think that the person responsible has ever taken a bus ride, or understands that people need to use public transport to get to hospitals, doctor’s and dental appointments, never mind get to work and get home.

I and others waited in the freezing cold for buses that were more than 30 minutes late, vanished off the real-time information display, didn’t come at all, or only went half the journey.

And this was just on the No 9 , never mind the rest of the city.

Had no-one realised that this is the peak period of the year for Oxford?

Obstructing the highway in this way has made the community fed up, cold, not at all Christmassy, and taking their business to other ‘user-friendly’ cities.

Don’t they want the retailers in Oxford to survive, not forgetting the shops and restaurants in St Clement’s, who must be totally frustrated?

I also could not believe the abuse that passengers gave the bus drivers when they did eventually arrive.

Give them a break. They are doing a very difficult job, and although maybe the bus has been totally eliminated from the timetable, they are acting on instructions, and only doing the job that they are being paid for.

I would like to know who authorised these roadworks, and the reasoning behind the decision to start so close to Christmas?

Don’t we all deserve an explanation, and a heartfelt apology from these ‘powers that be’? I think that is the least they can do, and hopefully they will do this via your newspaper.
