RESIDENTS in Claydon, Cropredy, Great Bourton and Little Bourton have been thrown a lifeline with the start of a new bus service.

Oxfordshire County Council has put up £15,000 for a Dial-a-Ride service, which will visit the villages on request.

The villages were left without a regular bus service after the 200 Stagecoach route to Banbury ended this month. It had been diverted through the villages since the A361 closed in March for flood defence work, which has now finished.

Stagecoach said it could not continue to send the bus through the villages as it would affect its punctuality. This cut Cropredy’s Monday to Saturday services from 12 to two.

Concessionary travel pass holders can use the new CountyConnect services free from 9.30am Monday to Friday and all day Saturday.

Other fares for the new service, which started last week, have not yet been announced.
