Sir – May I bring to the notice of residents local to the Templar Road Estate in North Oxford, the intention for Oxford City Council to allow the demolition of several sets of city council-owned garages in the area.

The city council has at no time, to my knowledge as a hirer/user of one of these garages, informed us locals either through the city council magazine, direct contact by any local city councillor, or indeed by way of letter from the council department responsible for hiring my garage space to me.

Until a local resident ‘spotted’ a small printed notice attached to a lamp-post, off the normal area used by foot traffic in our cul-de-sac, none of us here was any the wiser. Clearly the city council holds the people of this estate in either total contempt, or at best, very low esteem.

Even the way in which we are to ‘object’ leaves a great deal to be desired, with no real time available over the Christmas/New Year holiday period and I imagine with many not having online facility available to them to actually object by January 3, totally outrageous!

As local councillors, they're soon knocking on all our doors, with cap in hand for potential votes but their apparent willingness to remain silent about this issue, does in itself speak volumes about their real attitude towards us all.

I would urge all local residents to object about this most underhand scheme at the first available opportunity.

David Williams, Oxford
