Sir – The current public transport system does not make me feel welcome in my native city. The success of joint ticketing on the buses is clear from the number of buses now seen in the city marked ‘sorry bus full’ and the huge numbers of people waiting at bus stops.

I would particularly like to know what has happened to the Oxford bus service 4? Every day last week I waited at the High Street stop from 2pm to 2.25pm for a bus to Elms Parade. Why? Service 4 is supposed to run every 10 minutes at that time of day.

Presumably this will be blamed on the Christmas rush. Again, why? Christmas comes every year — plenty of time to plan ahead and add more buses, or adjust the timetable to account for busier roads (and fuller buses).

Is it any wonder people still drive into Oxford and pay the ridiculous parking charges? At least they arrive where they want, when they want and don’t have to drag heavy/bulky shopping through the city for an indeterminate wait at the nearest bus stop.
