Sir – I hope that the Government will understand that the proposed changes to the boundaries of Parliamentary seats are preposterous, and will deeply unsettle our city’s traditional links.

The proposal for the extension of North Oxford eastward, for example, means that it would take one-and-half-hours to get from one part to another — because of the waterways which have always divided these areas. From the Woodstock Road I would need to go into central Oxford, walk across town to catch another bus to my destination in East Oxford.

This makes no credible sense in an important matter of communities, and we must hope that the Government will understand.
