Sir – In response to Christian prayers being described as ‘inappropriate’ by a minority (Report, December 8) I would like to point out that what has made our nation great for so long, has been the fact we have been a God-fearing nation that honours God publicly, and is historically represented through our monarchy and in national times of prayer.

I’m sure councillor Melinda Tilley, who objects so strongly, will no doubt be consuming fine wine and turkey to celebrate Christmas this year, which, could I remind her, is a tradition celebrated by Christians amongst others, in remembrance of their loving saviour being born.
