ICY conditions brought 17 traffic collisions and a “significant” number of falls across Oxfordshire this morning.

South Central Ambulance Service said there had been 15 road accidents between 7.28am and 11.55am.

This was twice the number of calls than normal and bosses warned residents to be careful on roads and pathways.

Communications manager Michelle Ullett said: “We would encourage drivers and walkers to be more cautious today and take care when you are out and about.

“Roads and pavements continue to be icy so it is important to leave more time for your journey.”

She advised drivers to properly de-ice cars before setting off and walkers to wear safe shoes with a sturdy grip.
