ARE you 60 or over? And a movie lover? Then why not join us next week at the Phoenix Picturehouse cinema in Walton Street, Jericho, for three days of festive film magic.

Co-sponsored by our sister paper the Oxford Mail, all the movies start at 11am, so you don’t have to worry about getting home in the dark, and your ticket, which includes free hot drinks and mince pies, is simply a copy of that day’s Oxford Mail (but don’t worry if you forget to take yours along, copies will on sale in the cinema foyer for 42p).

The three films being screened this year are the multi-award winning blockbuster The King’s Speech, starring Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush, which will start the mini-festival on Tuesday, December 13.

On Wednesday, December 14, the latest remake of Jane Eyre, which was released in September, will grace the screen, and on Thursday, that perennial favourite White Christmas starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye will close this feel-good festival.

Said Suzy Sheriff, manager of the Phoenix, said: “It’s become something of a tradition for us, and the response to this three-day celebration of matinee-style movies is tremendous. So please do remember to arrive early. We can’t wait to see you.”

Added Jeremy Smith, group features editor for both the Mail and The Oxford Times: “This really is one of my favourite events of the whole year.

“The atmosphere is always incredibly welcoming and friendly, lots of people make a point of meeting their friends here, and the films themselves are of course terrific. Plus, the mince pies aren’t bad either . . .”
