WORKERS in Wallingford were still trying to fix an electrical fault in the town’s Market Place last night after the Christmas lights failed.

The power was outed at the Christmas lights switch-on ceremony on Sunday and the town council has appointed staff to fix the problem.

Elaine Hornsby, a spokesman for traders’ group Wallingford in Business, said: “There are people working to get all the lights switched on as soon as possible.

“There are some Christmas lights working but not all of them came on, including the ones for the tree, and we hope all the lights will be on in the next few days.”

Traders held their first daytime Christmas shopping celebration on Sunday after abandoning their traditional late-night shopping event.
