A BUDDING star who performs under the stage name Mister Bicester is to perform in front of 2,500 people after getting through to the finals of a national talent contest.

Howard Grater has won a place in the final of the Open Mic UK contest at indigO2 at the O2 Arena in London next month.

The 24-year-old actor, singer-songwriter and former Cooper School pupil fought his way through auditions followed by three regional heats to make it to the final.

About 9,000 people applied to take part in the nationwide contest, which offers a first prize of a recording contract.

The Arncott youngster will be up against 19 other performers. There will be one winner from each of the three age groups, up to age 16, 17-22, and 23 and over, and one overall winner.

He said: “I’m thrilled to get through. The standard was so much higher in the regional finals so I was pretty chuffed. I’m really excited now for the final.”

He plans to play at pubs in London to test out his songs on audiences before choosing what he will perform at the final on January 21.
