OH dear – Mr R Lee (Oxford Mail, November 23) hasn’t thought through his naive belief in the Euro, has he?

Yes, if we belonged to the Euro, energy costs, and indeed all import costs, would be cheaper, but of course the costs of all our exports would be so much more expensive and this country would be far less attractive to overseas visitors.

Net result – unemployment at a horrendous level, which would make today’s unemployment look positively benign.

Now Mr Lee might be happy to sacrifice the jobs of his fellow countrymen on the altar of his belief in the Euro but the rest of us will happily keep clear of a currency in terminal decline.
