The hunt is on for Rose Hill’s oldest and youngest resident to switch on the estate’s Christmas lights.

A Christmas tree will illuminate the Oval for the first time and organiser Fran Gardener, of Oxford City Housing Association, wants the estate residents at either end of the age spectrum to unite in flicking the switch on December 10.

She said: “We felt that the most important people to switch the lights on would be Rose Hill residents and so we’re looking for the oldest and youngest people to come forward.

“The youngest will be a newly born baby but we need to find the oldest person.”

Rose Hill stalwart Vim Rodrigo welcomed the multicultural celebrations, saying they would bring the community together.

He added: “I welcome any way to brighten up the place in this time of gloom.”

The community celebration food festival, lights switch-on, carols and music will take place at the Oval on December 10 at 5.00pm.

So far it is thought that oldest person living on the estate is 96, but if you know of someone older then the organisers want to hear from you.
