A SERIES of crashes on the A34 in less than 24 hours caused traffic chaos in Oxford.

Yesterday at 9.24am the police were called to a collision on the A34 northbound, between the Wytham turn and Peartree roundabout.

It involved an Army vehicle and a red Land Rover Defender and no-one was injured.

Motorists reported traffic backed up along the A34 and into the city itself, particularly in Botley Road.

Further along the A34, soldiers from Dalton Barracks near Abingdon came to the rescue of a woman whose car tipped over yesterday morning.

After the accident, which took place near Newbury, the soldiers tipped the car back over, gave the woman first aid and directed traffic until police arrived.

And at 7pm on Wednesday three cars and two vans were involved in a crash on the A34 southbound at the junction with the A44 at the Peartree interchange.

One man was cut from his car by fire crews and taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital with slight injuries.
