HALF of Oxfordshire’s schools have announced full or partial closures tomorrow, with more expected to join them today.

The full impact of tomorrow’s public sector strikes in Oxfordshire is still unclear, with councils unsure how many workers will join the protest.

Public sector unions representing teachers, headteachers, council employees, nurses, medical staff and civil servants will strike over changes to their pensions.

By yesterday evening, 154 county schools had announced full or partial closures.

No-one is yet able to estimate how many thousands of workers will join tomorrow’s industrial action.

Picket lines are planned at the John Radcliffe, Warneford and Churchill hospitals in Oxford, and Horton Hospital in Banbury, as well as outside district and county council offices and some police stations.

Strikes are also planned at the Health Protection Agency in Harwell, Oxford & Cherwell Valley College, and Job Centres.

At the JR, radiology, physiotherapy and occupational therapist appointments are among those cancelled.

Thames Valley Police said officers would still be able to respond to emergency calls and police the streets.

In Oxford, bin collections may be delayed until Thursday or Friday Further disruption will be caused by a march in the centre of Oxford, which starts at 1.30pm in Headington, culminating in a a rally at Broad Street at 3.30pm.

AFFECTED SERVICES: Oxfordshire County Council Libraries in Abingdon, Banbury, Berinsfield, Kennington and the North Mobile library will close. Cowley library will close from 5pm to 7pm.

At this stage, waste recycling centres are set to remain open.

Oxford City Council Hoping to run a skeleton recycling collection service, focusing on trade recycling and clinical waste. Waste, recycling and garden waste collections due on Wednesday will be delayed until Thursday or Friday. No information about other council services.

Cherwell District Council Refuse and recycling collections may be affected but the council has plans in place to return service to normal as quickly as possible. Anyone whose bins are missed on the day should ensure they are left out for collection.

West Oxfordshire District Council No disruption South and Vale District Councils No serious impact on services, waste collection unaffected Thames Valley Police Adequate resources to respond to all emergency calls and visible front line policing.

Oxford University Hospitals Trust Most services to run as normal. Some non-urgent appointments in radiology and imaging, cardiac angiography, endoscopy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy affected. Dates rearranged for patients who had non-urgent appointments Oxford Health Inpatient services, urgent care and minor injury units not affected.

Job Centres Unknown how many will close. Crisis services will still be available.
