Sir – I am dismayed to hear of the closure of Witney Corn Exchange, with no guarantee of a future opening date.
With the closure of Langdale Hall, this leaves Witney with no public venue for any town events. Surely that cannot be right in a town of this size?
I am particularly concerned about the cinema that is housed there, with so many regular users from the town. Smaller groups may be able to hire another space, but what of this valuable asset?
There is no other home for this cinema which has been running for over 10 years with films which would never be shown in the larger new cinema.
I trust that the heating problems can be sorted out as soon as possible, that we can all be reassured that the Corn Exchange will soon reopen, and that the cinema proprietor John Richards will be recompensed for his loss of income from films booked but not shown.
Brenda Woods, Witney
