I AM sorry that Bob Johnson is so uninformed as to believe that the EU was set up to prevent another European war (Oxford Mail, November 4).
In the later stages of the Second World War, German industrial chiefs and Nazi French collaborators met in secret to discuss the future of Europe after the war.
It was decided that Brussels would eventually be the headquarters of what is now the EU. The motive for all this was money, not for peace in Europe.
Also, because after the war Germany was divided until 1989 it could not dominate Europe. Alas now the genie is out of the bottle.
Germany, with its collaborator France, now dominate Europe.
Back to the future 1940!
