A MAN will face court tomorrow charged with murdering Denis Witney.

Police spokesman Rebecca Webber said Daniel McCollin, 29, from Oxford, had been charged this morning with murdering Mr Witney.

Mr Witney, 39, was found dying in St Clement's Street, East Oxford, by police on routine patrol on Wednesday night and died soon afterwards at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

McCollin was one of four people police arrested and won approvals from magistrates on Friday evening to continue to hold and interview over the death.

One of them, a 36-year-old man, is still being held by detectives because they had to stop questioning him when he had to be taken to hospital with a "pre-existing medical condition", said Miss Webber.

Two women also arrested, both 28, have been released on police bail until January while further enquiries are carried out.

McCollin is being held by police until he appears at Oxford Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning.

A post-mortem examination on Friday found Mr Witney had suffered head and abdomen injuries but it failed to determine what killed him. Further investigations are being carried out.

Mr Witney was homeless but had links to the Headington area.
