TWO people have been taken to hospital following this morning's M40 crash that has shut the motorway southbound.

A Volkswagen Polo, Audi and a van were involved in the collision between junctions 9 and 8A at 3.07am, police said.

The motorway is still closed southbound between the two junctions and while there is no estimate when it will re-open, the spokesman said there was "extensive" recovery work still going on.

Three people had to be cut from one of the vehicles and two of those were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, an ambulance spokesman said.

The police spokesman added: "We are dealing with serious injuries but no fatalities at the moment."

The ambulance spokesman added seven other people were treated by paramedics at the crash site but did not taking to hospital.
