DRIVERS suffered delays on the A420 tonight between Oxford and Swindon after a heavy goods vehicle collided with an empty car parked at the side of the busy dual carriageway.

The crash happened at 7.20pm close to Wadley Manor, Littleworth, near Faringdon, on the Oxford-bound carriageway.

Police, fire officers and ambulance crews attended the incident.

South Central Ambulance spokesman Ngozi Fakeye said: “It appears that the HGV crashed into the car, which was stationary at the side of the road.

“The driver of the HGV was not injured and did not need hospital treatment or any treatment at the scene.”

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police’s Abingdon roads policing department confirmed that no one was hurt in the accident.

She added: “The A420 was closed in both directions near the scene of the accident between 7.30pm and about 8pm and traffic is now flowing again.”

A spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire Service confirmed that firefighters were called to the scene but added that they did not have to cut anyone free from a vehicle.
