NO-ONE can criticise Witney Town Council for taking the decision to close the Corn Exchange on safety grounds.
There is just no wriggle room when it comes to providing venues for the public. Safety must be paramount.
The real concern, though, is the current uncertainty of what this all means, because it affects hundreds of people.
There are clearly serious issues with the building that a description of a faulty heating system does not fully cover.
The council is obviously in a difficult position but it needs to give the public something definite to work with soon.
