A PAEDOPHILE who admitted half a dozen sex offences has been warned by a judge “prison is inevitable”.

Chris Govier appeared at Oxford Crown Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to six counts of sexual activity with a child.

The 61-year-old’s offending took place between July 2010 and March this year. His victim was a teenage girl.

Govier, of Cotmore Close, Thame, was remanded in custody until sentencing due to concerns he may abscond.

Prosecutor Cathy Olliver told the court: “On the commencement of this investigation he retired from his job, as did his wife, and they sold their house and bought a Winnebago and said they were planning to leave the Thame area.

“He said (it was for) no real reason, they just fancied it.”

Judge Anthony King noted Govier had “ancient previous convictions of violence and handling (stolen goods) in 1972”.

His last offence, which was not specified but was not sexual, happened in 1996.

Jonathan Coode, defending, said his client “knows he is going to prison”.

Judge King refused a bail application and adjourned sentencing until Friday, December 2. He told Govier: “The sentence is inevitably a custodial one.

“Quite frankly, you may as well start your sentence now.”
