With regard to Ralph Leavis’s letter, November 9, asking if I was being disrespectful to nuns: on the contrary I was simply pointing out that it’s not just Islamic countries where women wear clothes respecting their religion.
The comment was made in regard to a letter by another reader who disrespected the female announcers on Press TV for wearing hijab headscarves.
I’m a great believer in respecting other countries’ traditions and religions without interference. After all it was little more than 100 years ago that we were covering the legs of pianos which were considered immodest and criticising African women for going topless.
