A MAN has been accused of pointing a toy gun at passing cars in the city centre.
Police were called to Frideswide Square after reports of a man pointing a pretend gun at passing cars just after 11am on Thursday, a spokesman said yesterday.
Officers said it was believed to have been a toy gun and no armed response unit was called.
Adel Fawaz, who works at Station Barbers in Park End Street, saw police make an arrest. He said: “I’m not 100 per cent sure what happened.
“They had a guy on the floor. There were a few passers by looking, and quite a few police cars.”
Antonio Francesco Jones, of Speedwell Street, was charged with possession of an imitation fire arm with intent to cause fear.
The 45-year-old appeared before Oxford Magistrates’ Court yesterday where he was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Oxford Crown Court on Friday, October 28.
