A Bicester family have been paid compensation after their teenage son was killed in a car crash.

Neil Webb, pictured, of Spruce Drive, Bicester, was a passenger in Ryan Naylor’s Citroen Saxo when it crashed head-on with a BMW in Ardley last October.

The 19-year-old suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Naylor, 21, of Ardley Road, Fewcott, was jailed for 32 months at Oxford Crown Court after admitting causing death by dangerous driving.

The amount of the compensation claim has not been released.

Neil’s dad Jeff, an Oxfordshire firefighter, said: “Neil was a popular boy who lived life to the full.

“He was our world. We never expected to lose him in such a way and claiming compensation was the last thing on our mind.

“The compensation will never make up for the gaping hole that is now in our lives, and claiming was never about achieving that – it was about trying to achieve some sense of justice for Neil.

“It will cover the costs of his funeral – something we never planned for.

“We never imagined we’d bury our child.”

Helen Williams, of Thompsons Solicitors, who acted for the family, said: “Compensation will never replace this family’s loss but we hope it will go some way towards helping them deal with his untimely death.”

Earlier this year, in tribute to Neil, who was passionate about in-line skating, the Webb family paid for professional in-line skaters to visit Bicester Activity Day, a free event at Garth Park, to give demos and tips.

Cash raised for the Neil Webb Memorial Fund, which was set up at his funeral, was used to pay for the event and for a bench overlooking the skate park.

A former pupil of Bicester Community College, Neil worked at the Bicester car parts firm First Line.
