Oxfordshire County Council’s Visual Impairment Team were out in the city this week to raise awareness for those who cannot see.
The team and some of the 180 people who use the service descended on the Westgate Centre with white canes to answer questions as part of World Sight Day.
Samantha Millard, 20, from Bicester – pictured second from right with, from left, John Fearn-Webster, Dave Holmes and dog Jez, Elizabeth Agar, Beverley Downs, Serena Glister and Verity Hollingshead – is severely sight impaired. She said: “We were letting people know about the different types of canes and what they meant.
“A lot of people don’t know what the different canes mean.
“Having the cane is very useful. It means you can go out yourself and live independently. It has got me out of the house a lot.
“You get some people who aren’t very nice, but others are really helpful.”
