I have an old but well-made ‘shove ha'penny’ board bearing a label showing that it came from E. de la Mare, the Oxford toy merchant, George Street, Oxford. Established 1895.
I am an old Oxonian and vaguely recall a de la Mare in Park End Street. Friends who have tried to find out more have found an E. de la Mare, confectioner in Shoe Lane in 1896 and again in 1900 as a toy dealer in Church Street, St Ebbe’s but nothing in George Street.
Can any of your readers recall E. de la Mare in George Street and where it was located?
