I REFER to a letter by Mrs Dorothy Holloway (OxfordMail, September 28): the problem with charities today is too many people get involved with it and, of course, they charge administration costs which will take a big sum from the original amount collected.

That’s why, where there’s been a disaster and millions of pounds are collected, by the time it gets to where it’s going, it’s only worth half the original amount, so it seems charities are run like a business.

We know it shouldn’t be but that’s how life is today: nobody, it seems, wants to do anything for nothing anymore.

So you see, if you give a pound to a large charity, it could be swallowed up in the administration cost unless you give your donation directly to whoever who are giving it to, like the Salvation Army, where there wouldn’t be administration involved.

You give a pound: they get a pound.

That’s how it should be. There’s too many greedy people out there today. It’s a shame really.
