REPUTED to be Europe’s longest street fair, the Ock Fair lit up Abingdon with thousands flocking to enjoy fun fair rides and food stalls.
Organiser Steve Rich said: “It went very well. On Monday we had about 12,000 people walking through. That’s a bit less than usual, but we’re putting it down to the current economic climate.
“But we’re still very pleased with it, there have been no problems at all.”
The annual event, which finished last night, runs the length of Ock Street and has been a fixture on Abingdon’s calendar since the 17th century.
It is now enshrined in law thanks to the 1985 Oxfordshire Act which states the fair must be held every year.
“It’s not the biggest street fair in Europe, but it’s certainly the longest at about a mile long,”
Mr Rich said.
