Sir – May I add my voice to the pleas for cycle tracks both along the B4017 and the B4044. I am one of the cyclists that dare not ride on the B4044.
What is more, when I drive in my car along the B4044 my heart is in my mouth when I see how tightly the cyclists have to hug the edge of the road and how vulnerable they are to the numerous potholes along the edge, which they cannot escape if they are overtaken.
Indeed a friend describes coming off his bike in just such a situation on the B4044 and ending up on the road with the wheels of a car two feet from his head . . .
If we want to encourage people to ride bicycles instead of using up increasingly scarce fossil fuel resources, we must not only try to add cycle tracks to existing roads but also ensure that no new road is built without a cycle track alongside!
