Police believe a man who tried to rob a supermarket carried out the attack because he was “desperate” and had not planned the raid.
The man went into the Co-op store, in Burchester Place, Nethercote, armed with a mallet-type hammer and told the assistant three times to open the till at 1.30pm last Friday but was not heard because his mouth was covered.
Call police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
