OXFORD United will give a leg up to World Mental Health Day this afternoon.

The club has teamed up with mental health charity Oxfordshire Mind to organise the second annual ‘1 in 4’ Legged Race across the Kassam pitch.

The race will take place during half time of the match against Bristol Rovers to highlight the fact that one in four people experience mental health problems during their life.

United defender Damian Batt said: “I guess this counts as training, but I’m not sure if the manager would agree!

“We’re very happy to help bring awareness to such a serious topic and hope the event during half-time today is well received by all the fans of both clubs.”

Meanwhile, a Kidlington optician is collecting second-hand glasses to send to Africa for World Sight Day.

Morgan-White Optometrists, in Oxford Road, has teamed up with charity Vision Aid Overseas to help people without access to healthcare in Ethiopia, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Zambia.

Dispensing optician Hayley Brunsden said: “We are collecting glasses not in use any more and take them to remote places with little healthcare. World Sight Day is a great opportunity to raise more awareness about it.”

Boss Andrew Morgan added: “About 40 per cent of people who come to Vision Aid Overseas clinics need glasses.”
