AN INDIAN extravaganza will light up the John Radcliffe hospital to raise funds for the Oxford Kidney Unit to buy new equipment and Six Counties Kidney Patients’ Association which supports carers and patients.

Music, dance and food will be on offer at the charity event tonight as the event Indian Beats gets underway.

Organised by the Indian Union Oxford and Oxford Tamil Society to show their commitment to the community, the event is now in its third year and will feature music by a world-class south Indian jazz artist Dr Jyotsna Srikanth who recently gave a performance at the BBC Proms World Routes.

Dr Paul Flather of Mansfield College, Oxford, one of the organisers, said: “After our troubled summer of riots, this is just the kind of event we need to show how we really can pull together, and have fun, all towards a very important worthy cause.”

The event is in the Tingewick Hall and starts at 6pm. For more information and tickets (£14, concessions available) call Dr Kannaiyan Rabindranath on 07786237078 or email okuindianevent@gmail.com
