OH DEAR, Derrick Holt and James Wade have got themselves in a tizzy over my comments regarding the Mustang fighter in the Second World War (Oxford Mail, September 23).

James Wade says the Mustang was built to British specifications by the Americans, then later in his letter he contradicts himself by saying the aircraft was, in fact, of American design.

Derrick Holt, in his first letter, says the Mustang was unfit for intercepting enemy aircraft, but in his later letter he discovered that the Mustang was a fighter aircraft.

I am sure these two will tell you John Wayne won the war and America invented the ENIGMA decoding machine.
