A HOSPICE volunteer will go above and beyond the call of duty to raise vital cash.

Charlotte Austin, a volunteer receptionist at Adderbury’s Katharine House Hospice, is in training to climb the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.

She roped in her partner Pete Rimmer, and later this month the pair will travel to Tanzania, for the five-day mountain trek.

During the climb, the pair will trek more than 50 miles to the top of the 5,895 metre high mountain.

Ms Austin, 26, who lives in Leamington, said: “I was inspired by a close friend who took on this challenge. Pete luckily shared this ambition, so together we have been training across the UK, from locally at Avon Dassett Hills to Scafell Pike and over in France.

“Support from family and friends has been incredible, the hospice is a very special place.

“From my experiences volunteering, I know the hospice touches the lives of so many and raising money to enable them to continue seemed like the natural thing to do.”
