THE first repatriation ceremony from RAF Brize Norton will take place at about 5pm tomorrow.

The West Oxfordshire airbase has taken on the role from RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire, which formally handed over the duty last week.

Sgt Barry John Weston, of 42 Commando Royal Marines, was killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan last Tuesday. The plane carrying his body will land at Brize Norton at 3pm. The cortege is expected to leave the base through the Britannia Gate at about 5pm. It will then head along the A40 to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where it is expected to arrive at 5.40pm.

Those wishing to pay their respects will be able to do so from a purpose-built memorial garden in Norton Way, on the edge of Carterton, although other groups of people are expected to gather along the rest of the route.

There will also be space to stand along Monahan Way in Carterton and parking in Northwood Crescent.
