YOUR letters page on Monday (August 29) was remarkable in having so much that I agree with.

The letter from Vim Rodrigo really hit the nail on the head with his comments about street parking.

I remember the time when I only knew two people who owned cars and they had lock-up garages (unfortunately these lock-ups have been redeveloped for housing).

There was a time when if you parked on the roadside you had a policeman knocking on your door telling you to remove the obstruction.

What went wrong with the law? The fact is that if you don’t have a place to get a car off-road, you should not own a car – it’s as simple as that.

The remarks by Graham Lohan, regarding the council’s idea of building on public car parks, was complete commonsense.
