The Red Arrows will not perform at Uffington’s White Horse Show 40th anniversary celebrations on Monday, organisers confirmed last night.

The Arrows’ Hawk T1 aircraft have been grounded following a crash in Bournemouth on Saturday in which pilot Flt Lt Jon Egging was killed.

Uffington show chairman Derek Kelsey said even if the planes were airborne again this week, the RAF display team would not be flying at any shows over the weekend.

Mr Kelsey said: “It was such a sad and tragic accident.

“I have been trying to get the Red Arrows to Uffington for 12 years, and it would have been the icing on the cake for our 40th show.

“But we are very aware that they have had a fatality, and we have written to extend our deepest condolences to Flt Lt Egging’s wife, family and colleagues.”

The show runs from 8.30am on Sunday and 730am on Monday.

Headline attractions include a Cossack horsemanship display, and horseback gymnastics.

Also on the bill is falconry, Wurzels tribute act The Mangledwurzels Band, funfair, animal displays and historic vehicles.

On Sunday evening, a firework display will mark 40 years of the show, which is run by volunteers and raises money for village charities.

Mr Kelsey said: “We want people to come along and enjoy themselves.”
