Reasons to be upbeat perhaps, but let’s not count our chickens.
Today we can reveal the outcome of consultation into the future of children’s heart surgery in the UK.
And it looks as if there is hope for the campaigners fighting to keep key services at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital.
Ever since children’s heart surgery was stopped last year, families have been battling to find a way to bring it back. A relationship with Southampton had been struck up.
It meant while surgery was carried out in Hampshire, the JR kept hold of key care services.
Without the tie-up there were fears of a brain drain as surgeons and doctors moved on.
Now there are glimmers of hope.
The man in charge of the nationwide shake-up reckons the link between both cities showed promise.
There is no stronger praise.
But, as campaigners have said today, we must not rest on our laurels.
At least now we know NHS chiefs are listening and can see real benefit in the services provided in our city.
