The Red Arrows will not perform at Uffington’s White Horse Show 40th anniversary celebrations on Monday, organisers confirmed last night.

Show chairman Derek Kelsey learnt said even if the planes are airborne again this week, the RAF display team will not be flying at shows this weekend after the death of Flt Lt Jon Egging at a crash near Bournemouth on Saturday.

All of the Arrows’ Hawk T1 aircraft are currently grounded.

Mr Kelsey said: “It was such a sad and tragic accident.

“I have been trying to get the Red Arrows to Uffington for 12 years, and it would have been the icing on the cake for our 40th show.

“But we are very aware that they have had a fatality, and we have written to extend our deepest condolences to Flt Lt Egging’s wife, family and colleagues.”

The show will run in Uffington from 8:30am on Sunday and 7:30am on Monday.

Headline attractions include a Cossack horsemanship display by Gerard Naprous and the Devil’s Horseman, and Jive Pony, who perform gymnastics on horseback.

Also on the bill is falconry, Wurzels tribute band The Mangledwurzels Band, funfair, animal displays and historic vehicles.

On Sunday evening, a firework display will mark 40 years of the show, which is run by volunteers and raises money for village charities.

Mr Kelsey said: “The greatest thing for me is seeing families come in at the end of the school holidays, enjoying an ice cream or candyfloss, and looking very happy.

“We want people to come along and enjoy themselves.”
